Rat up a drainpipe
That was what my kid went into school like for the first time yesterday. He loves it. It'll never last. We've had hours of conversations and meetings regarding his diabetes control with the nurse from the diabetic centre (Yay Sarah), and all the staff at his school, who actually seemed to look forward to working with the nipper and his condition.
As opposed to the arseholes at a few other schools, who couldn't be arsed. Or in one case, couldn't be arsed yet (more on that in a minute). One school told us point blank they wouldn't take him ("I can't really tell you this, but we wouldn't accept him into the school"). All sorts of threats were made, and a few decidedly nasty letters written (I wrote a strongly worded letter! I'm such a fucking parent. Anyhow, we got our asses kissed, and then politely informed them that due to the fact their Ofsted report sucked donkey balls, and every product of that school that I've ever met, not to be too blunt here, is thick as fuck, we wouldn't put him in that school anyway. There I go, making friends again. Onto the second category... we went to another school who made up all sorts of excuses (we dont have anywhere to do the injection, we don't have the staff to train, I can't ask my staff to do that, it's not a very nice thing to have to do) Not a very nice thing to do? WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TELLING? Since when did you have to stab your kid with a needle four fucking times a day since he was two years old? Still, revenge being a dish best served cold, my father-in-law (who happens to be a headmaster of a Severe PMLD (physical and mental learning difficulties) school) bumped into the headmistress that made the "not very nice" comment. She mentioned that she'd had someone in asking after a place for a diabetic child, and she'd had to turn them down. He asked after the name of the parent. Since his daughter married me, she's taken my name, so there's no obvious link. I'd have loved to have been able to see her expression and rapid backtracking right after he said "Oh yes, that's my daughter and grandson...". We received the offer, and rejected it, because although I went to the school many, many moons ago, and loved every minute of it, I'm not prepared to deal with a headmistress we have to pressure into things by blackmailing her or forcing the father-in-law to deal with her. And she's an ass-kisser.
Anyway, longstoryshort: the nippers at school, loving it, and his diabetes is taken care of too. Schweet. Now I just have to drag the Mrs away from it...
